STORY OF THE SEASON
The SM Series 2022 took place over 8 races between October 31, 2021, and February 6, 2022. What made the winter season unique was that no other competitions were held besides the SM Series 2022, and the races were scheduled every two weeks on Sundays at 7:00 PM. For this season, Erihinaus joined with a €1000 prize pool, which was divided among the top 5 drivers of the series. A team competition was also introduced, with Hel Performance Suomi offering steel-braided brake hose kits to both drivers on the winning team.
A new feature for the 2022 season was the preliminary driver meetings, which were streamed on YouTube a week before each race, explaining how to navigate each race track profile. Midway through the season, there were significant changes in the rules and judging criteria, which helped clarify and improve the overall competition experience. The live stream for the season was managed by Jussi Plym, who hosted the broadcasts and handled the live stream with various camera angles on YouTube.
During the 2022 season, the cars used were the game’s own vehicles, the FZR and XRR, which were limited to 265 rear tires with a standard compound. Halfway through the season, the developers of Live For Speed surprised everyone by releasing the LFS Editor, which allowed players to create their own cars for the game. However, this feature wasn’t implemented mid-season as the players chose to finish the season with the original cars.
A total of 54 drivers participated in the season, breaking the previous record for the number of participants in qualifying, which had been 30. In the season opener, there were 45 drivers in qualifying!
The season was highly competitive, especially up until the 5th race. At that point, it was still unclear who would win the championship. However, things started to solidify after #15 T. Luukkanen made a huge mistake in Round 6 qualifying, scoring a zero and being eliminated from the competition with no points. At that point, Luukkanen was still in 2nd place, just a few points behind the series leader, #64 J.Järvenpää. This incident allowed #64 J.Järvenpää and #73 T.Kalliokoski's Rookiedrifters Team to pull ahead, and by the final race, the team championship had already been decided in favor of Rookiedrifters Team.
Järvenpää only needed a good qualifying position to secure the 2022 Finnish Championship, which he achieved by qualifying 3rd. The surprise of the season came from #82 T.Keinänen, who managed to finish 3rd overall in the series as a newcomer. The duo of Persauki Drift Team’s Valkonen and Keinänen also impressed with their performance throughout the season and earned special recognition from the SLADI Masters - eMotorsport series for their excellent teamwork and development.
Erihinaus SM Series 2022 was the fourth time the series was held, and once again, a new Finnish Champion was crowned!
